All-Natural Lip Balm DIY

I don’t know about you, but when winter rolls around I am in desperate need of an amazing moisturizing lip balm. It is so dry outside and no matter how much water I drink, my lips always end up chapped! I'm convinced that there is nothing more annoying than chapped lips.

I wanted a lip balm that I could carry around with me and help seal in moisturization.

My problem was, I didn't just want to go to the store and pay exorbitant amounts on a quality lip balm. I wanted a vegan product made with organic, all-natural products. So, I did a little google search and I could not believe the astronomical prices for some of these lip balms! I was not willing to shell out that much money.

So, I decided I would make it for myself. I knew I wanted to use soy wax as a substitute for the beeswax commonly used in lip balms, I wanted coconut oil for its moisturization properties and lower melting point, and peppermint oil for a nice tingly and cooling feeling on my lips. Easy right? Well, it took me about 10 tries to finally get my ratios right, but I did it!

This is my absolute favorite new lip balm! It was super cheap to make and now that I know the ratio it’s super easy!

The best part? I know where all the ingredients come from, I’m not wasting putting more plastic into the world, and it’s vegan! Because of the all-natural ingredients, you don’t need to worry if you have a little one or pet who accidentally eats it! It’s all safe!

You could really add whatever essential oil you like to change the scent. I chose peppermint to create a copycat Burt’s bees lip balm. but, anything would work!

I often give these away as gifts because I make so much, and you could too! These make great gifts. Each tube approximately cost me 25 cents to make. SO much better than $3 at a store for a tube filled with chemicals!

Here is the recipe and all of the supplies you will need to make this amazing DIY lip balm! This recipe makes quite a bit so I suggest cutting it in half if you are only making it for yourself.

  • ½ cup soy wax

  • ½ cup coconut oil

  • 4 tbsp. olive oil or avocado oil

  • 20 drops peppermint oil (or whatever oil you choose)

  • melt down the soy wax and coconut oil in a double boiler or in the microwave.

  • stir for 3-5 minutes to allow the oil and wax to combine.

  • After the mixture has cooled slightly add olive oil and peppermint (or other) oil.

  • Stir again for 3-5 minutes

  • pour into your chapstick tubes, or lip balm containers.

See how easy that was? The whole process only takes about 15 minutes!

This lip balm is seriously amazing and I can’t wait for your to try this DIY.
